SC Department of Public Safety Mechanic III (61034953) in Calhoun County, South Carolina
Repairs and replaces parts on all diesel powered equipment assigned to SCDOT. Performs maintenance and repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulic motors, pumps, cylinders, mowing equipment, tractors, motorgraders, rollers and AMZ machines. Performs routine and general maintenance and repairs to automotive vehicles. Performs work on electrical system repair or replacement of alternators, starters, DMI and strobe lights. Performs preventative maintenance and repairs vehicles during service calls that require repair before movement. Performs electric or gas welding and fabrication as needed for repairs on various equipment making modifications to equipment to improve the production of utilizations. Performs job duties related to snow/ice and other inclement weather related events. Installs snow removal equipment such as snow plows and sand spreaders on trucks. Performs other job related duties as required by supervisor.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Two (2) years of work experience that involved the independent performance of job duties directly related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations. Completion of one (1) academic year of a South Carolina High School Automotive Technology or Diesel Engine curriculum may substitute for six (6) months of directly-related experience. Necessary Special Requirement: Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
