SC Department of Public Safety Equipment Operator II/Vehicle Management in Richland County, South Carolina

Job Responsibilities This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, PPS/Vehicle Management Join our team. Our Agency's mission is to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses. We provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina. As an Equipment Operator II, you will transport visitors, state employees, officials, patients, supplies and materials both in and around the State. Responsible for the cleanliness and safe operations of vehicles which includes the performance of pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections of assigned vehicles. Maintains vehicle travel logs and utilization records on a daily basis. Maintains accountability of fuel card purchase receipts and turns in transaction records as needed. Operates radio and maintains communications with dispatch Office on a continual basis. Performs dispatch duties, which includes receiving trip requests via phone, email or fax and records trip information. Assists other Equipment Operators as needed. Three (3) positions available Minimum and Additional Requirements State Requirements: Experience in the operation or maintenance of motorized vehicles that is directly related to the area of employment. Facility Requirements: Must have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Must possess a valid SC driver's license and have one (1) year driving experience without a moving violation (no more than two (2) or more motor vehicle accidents/incidents, regardless of fault, as the operator of a vehicle in the past three (3) years. Ability to operate a variety of vehicles including sedans, vans, and mini buses' ability to read maps and understand written road directions. Preferred Qualifications Additional Comments _The selected candidate must have considerable knowledge of safe driving practices according to S.C. highway laws and regulations. Must be able to sit, stand, squat, kneel and climb steps unassisted in order to perform duties. Must be able to lift 35lbs. Employees in this position are considered essential personnel, and must be willing to work in a stand by, on-call emergency basis as needed during nights, weekends, holidays and during periods of inclement weather.
