SC Department of Public Safety Postal Specialist in Richland County, South Carolina
Under general supervision performs standard distribution and receiving functions for agency postal services. Receives, sorts and distributes incoming mail, processes outgoing mail and inter and intra-departmental distribution for the department, and processes undeliverable mail according to the Mail Markup Manual. Operates a postal van. Picks-up, transports and delivers financial documents and data to the Comptroller General's Office and picks-up, transports and delivers computer materials for Information Systems. Posts outgoing US Mail and delivers to Post Office. Operates postal equipment and maintains accountability of postage. Maintains supply of envelopes and other necessary supplies. Responsible for the cleanliness and orderliness of mailroom. Handles special mailings for DJJ offices. Mails boxes of personal items to juvenile's homes for Rehabilitative Services. Assists in maintaining agency address labels on the computer. Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
State Requirements: A high school diploma. Related work experience may be substituted for a high school diploma.
Agency Requirements: A high school diploma and a valid SC driver's license. Related work experience may be substituted for a high school diploma.

Knowledge of policies, regulations and procedures for handling mail. Knowledge of filing systems and the maintenance of office records. Skill in the operation of a motor vehicle. Skill in the operation of postal meters and scales. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Employee must be able to perform assigned duties independently and professionally under general supervision. Informal and formal conferences as required. Must be able to work to meet deadlines. Must be able to bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 lbs. as needed or on a consistent basis. Must be able to work in an environment with incarcerated juveniles. This position performs job duties relating to the custody, control, transportation, or recapture of juveniles within the jurisdiction of the department of juvenile justice, and the employee may have direct and indirect contact with juveniles within the jurisdiction of the department of juvenile justice. Training applicable to these duties will be provided.
