Job Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Auto Maintenance Technical Coordinator, employee must perform skilled mechanical duties in the maintenance and repair of Agency fleet and equipment and also maintains required documentation and drives a school bus as needed. Repairs/replaces major component parts (alternator, hydraulics, hubs, brake shoe, etc.) by restoring components to OEM specs. Performs all functions' necessary to maintain fleet in excellent operation condition. Evaluates and diagnoses mechanical/electrical problems. Notifies supervisor of any major mechanical issues that are outside our scope. Assist the Auto Maintenance Technical Coordinator in ensuring compliance for Federal, State, Agency, and Departmental policies, procedures, rules and regulations including but not limited to DHEC, DOE, DMV, DOT, STATE FLEET, etc. Performs annual bus inspections per SDE requirements. Maintains documentation that indicates buses are inspected in a timely manner to meet the requirements of the SDE. Maintains proper credentials for inspecting buses. Attends required training sessions related to performing job duties.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Requires three years of mechanical experience in automotive/bus repair or any combination of training and experience that would enable the employee to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities for both gasoline and diesel engines. Must maintain a current SC CDL, School Bus Certificate and DOT physical card or is able to acquire these certifications within 120 calendar days of hire. Must have a good working knowledge of the mechanical repair of both gasoline and diesel engines. Must possess or be able to acquire the necessary SDE certifications and ASE Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling certification. Requires the ability to perform all work in compliance with Federal, State, Agency, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures using personal protective equipment as required. Also requires a working knowledge of purchase and supply procedures and the ability to interpret technical service manuals and/or software.

Salary: $27,527.00 - $50,930.00 Annually
